Singleimage Workshops

workshop2

Our Cambridge workshops are held at the Trinity Centre on the Cambridge Science Park. Our Brussels workshops are held at the West Midlands European Centre.

Singleimage workshops provide a quick and effective introduction to many aspects of European Union Research Programmes. Whether you are a complete beginner, an experienced proposer trying to improve your success rate, or a project manager about to start your first EU project, our training can help you understand the challenges and opportunities ahead.  All our workshops are given in English.

Each workshop consists of lectures, practical exercises and feedback sessions, and provides lots of opportunities for questions and discussion.

The topics covered are: Winning FP7 Bids, Finance in FP7, Coordinating FP7 Research Projects,  and Consortium Agreement for FP7

Winning FP7 Bids:

A winning proposal starts with firm foundations: the right topic, a practical workplan, and a consortium that can deliver not only the scientific results but also impact on society or the economy.  This workshop will give you a comprehensive insight into how to establish the foundations for a successful proposal.

The workshop will start with the evaluation process and criteria, the chief financial conditions including viability checks and guarantees, and rules on intellectual property rights.  The main part of the day will focus on the proposal itself, showing how a well designed project and consortium will meet the evaluation criteria.  Examples from real proposals will illustrate good and bad practise in presenting bids.  The workshop is aimed at researchers, research managers and advisors who have had some introduction to FP7, such as attending an FP7 Information Day, and now need to understand the full requirements.

Finance in FP7:

Framework Seven (FP7) brings with it extensive financial rules, which cover everything from eligible costs to interest earned on advance payments, from payment terms to penalties, from subcontracting to social costs. This workshop addresses the financial rules and practices of the Cooperation and Capacities Programmes of FP7. It also covers the rules necessary to produce financial statements (Form C) for European Research Council grants. Through lectures and exercises, the one day workshop will give you a practical interpretation of the EU financial rules and guidelines drawing on real experience.

We also offer an extended version of this workshop over two days. It provides a greater level of detail, addresses a wider range of funding opportunities with extended sessions on filling Form C, Research for the Benefits of SMEs, overhead calculation and audit, plus an introduction to Horizon 2020, successor to FP7.

This workshop is essential for finance and administration staff involved in EU research projects, whether as a coordinator or partner. It is also suitable for project managers and professional advisors working on these projects

Coordinating FP7 Research Projects:

This workshop explains how EU collaborative research projects funded under the Framework Programme really work! It covers both the formal basis of the project from contracts to reporting and review, and the practicalities of coordinating a multi-partner, multi-country project to deliver the results promised in the proposal.

The workshop is aimed at research managers and administrators coordinating EU collaborative research projects. It is also suitable for those managing their organisation’s participation in EU collaborative projects, or developing the management section of proposals for these projects. Note: those requiring information on the financial aspects of FP7 should attend our Finance in FP7 workshop.

Consortium Agreements for FP7:

A good consortium agreement can support effective project management and minimise risks to intellectual property rights (IPR). But what is a good consortium agreement? Should power to transfer budgets between partners rest with an elected board, or with a general assembly of all partners? Should affiliates have free access to the IPR generated in the project? Which takes priority: academic publication or commercial confidentiality? Should EC payments be distributed immediately, or only on proof of work done?

This workshop will explain the main features and options for consortium agreements for collaborative projects in FP7. It will compare the DESCA, Digital Europe, EUCAR and ASD model consortium agreements and will cover the major terms of the EC grant agreement, which provides the context.

The workshop is aimed at those negotiating consortium agreements: research managers, advisors and contracts staff. Note: those requiring information on the financial aspects of FP7 should attend our Finance in FP7 workshop.

Once you have attended one of our workshops we do not abandon you!  We provide an after-care service.  So, for example, if you can't quite remember how an EC ruling applies to your project, send us an email.  You will also receive a copy of our In-Touch with FP7 monthly publication.
